In recent times there has been a move back to good quality leather shoes often with leather soles that need to be repaired so wear can be prolonged .
Traditionally bootmakers or shoe repairers were found in booths or cabins at railway stations so that people dropped shoes off on the way to work and picked them up at the end of the day on their way home again.
